Birds of Feathers

from $59.00

How could I not want to paint this bunch! They were people watching when I met them at the Maru Wildlife park on the Bass Coast. Standing eye to eye with these amazing birds is something else. They looked indignant but interested all at the same time. I always feel emus look seriously sceptical and mildly superior.

Emu’s are very fast but not as fast as kangaroos. They can reach speeds of up to 50km per hour taking strides that are almost three metres long.

Emu’s can’t walk backwards. It’s often thought that an emu and a kangaroo were chosen for our Australian Coat of Arms because of this fact making them a symbol of forward progress.

Emu’s can be found all over Australia.
